Cafe Martinez

Breakfast! There is a chain of coffee shops in Buenos Aires called Cafe Martinez.  I really like them a lot.  They are open, light, air conditioned, have good food, and free wireless.  They also have a menu that’s sorta in English, ask for the carta ingles.  The menu has pictures, so you can just point at what you want.  The media lunas aren’t the best in Buenos Aires, but they are quite good, and you can have a nice breakfast for about 15 pesos ($5).

The meal shown is fizzy water (agua con gas), orange juice, and two mini crossiants with ham and cheese (dos media lunas con jamon y queso).  This comes with cafe con leche on the menu, but I don’t like coffee and substituted the big bottle of fizzy water (you get the small glass pictured with the cafe con leche, also pictured in the background).

The wait staff is always friendly, even when no one speaks English.  The location on Callao (ka zjow) near Congresso has an English-speaking waitress as of December 2008, she is really nice.

They also carry wine, champagne, desserts, and a nice lunch menu of sandwiches, wraps, and paninnis.
